You should weigh yourself periodically. Some people get on their scale every day! I generally do it once a week. It’s more dramatic that way. If you look up the common characteristics of people who stay thin in their adult life, you will see right at the top of the list that they keep track of their weight.
Since I weigh in on Saturdays, it makes sense for my food week or diet week to start every Saturday too. Since I started controlling my weight and food intake, it’s become important to me and I look forward to Saturday and get on the scale before breakfast. Today:
Last week I weighed 222 pounds, exactly. I was a litle unsure about that number because it was a big drop from the week before (224.8). But it might have been close to reality! Since I started controlling my body’s weight in January, 2019 I have lost:
What does success look like?
Success for this lifestyle is simple and easy to achieve. It’s not a number, or even consistent weight loss. Success is being in control of my body’s weight. It’s lifestyle based, which means success is a bit deeper even than weight control. I am very happy living this way, more than I ever was before. Even in comparison to when I ate whenever and however much I wanted to! The really nice part is that I have separated success from weight loss. Weight loss is a side benefit. I have changed my mentality so that I think like a person who is in control of their weight. My body is catching up, a lagging indicator. It’s nice that it is catching up, though.
One problem with my mind being ahead of the body: it’s a bit frustrating that weight loss is so slow and the effects on the body are subtle from week to week. Sure, I can fit into size 40 pants now (a little bit of a squeeze) but if I look in the mirror, I am still overweight. I also am no longer sure what a normal weight body looks like. That is all to come.
On the good side, my body is catching up. It may take a while. What will I look like? Who will I be? That is all to come.
